ROADMAP 2

Funded by the European Union Civilian Protection, ROADMAP 2 (EuRopean ObservAtory on Disaster risk and crisis MAnagement good Practices: way ahead) is a continuation of the previous ROADMAP project, of which it intends to further develop the methodologies and tools implemented.

How does the project work?

ROADMAP 2 is being developed over two years (January 2023-December 2024) and has the overall objective of establishing a multidisciplinary thematic community to support the EU Science Pillar of the Knowledge Network, a space for sharing and connecting practitioners and experts in risk reduction and management. The project ideally continues the previous ROADMAP, completed in 2022, which helped build a shared general vision of disaster management by focusing on practical solutions and ideas, leading to the definition of the European Doctrine on Disaster Risk and Crisis Management. ROADMAP 2 aims to pursue this complex work, both by making the Doctrine even more useful and utilized, and by actually facilitating the implementation of the collaborative process developed under the previous project.
To do so, it sets two main goals. The first is the creation of a Community for the European Observatory (CEO) of good practices, to improve knowledge, understanding and replicability of good practices in risk reduction; and the second is to organize cycles of collaborative seminars and workshops based on good practices and their application in multi-hazard thematic scenarios, to foster the advancement and sharing of knowledge in civil protection and disaster management.

What are the expected results?

  • Active involvement of the DRM community in selecting and providing new GPs to be reported and used within the SE
  • Creation of a multidisciplinary thematic community to support the Science Pillar of the UCP Knowledge Network
  • Collection of experiences in the DRM field and to build-up a multi-center community that, starting from different areas of expertise and representing different roles in the DRM field (e.g., policy makers, decision makers, scientist) can share common vision and approaches in facing DRM challenges

What does CIMA Research Foundation do?

ROADMAP 2 is led by the Italian Civil Protection Department, the project has the Italian Center for Risk Reduction Research (CI3R), of which CIMA Research Foundation is a member, within its partnership. In this framework, we will specifically address the activities related to the Solutions Explorer (SE) developed in its first version within ROADMAP. These activities are devoted to the technical and structural improvement of the SE according to feedback and recommendations received by the CEO. In addition, CIMA will widen the communities and stakeholders contributing to the GPs available in the Solutions Explorer by linking the project with on-going initiatives at EU level.
