Social responsibility

With an unequivocally social mission, CIMA Research Foundation is committed to deepen methodologies and to participate in initiatives capable of creating further human, social and environmental values. As an inspiration for the achievement of this mission, in 2011 we have joined the UN Global Compact Network, the largest social responsibility initiative promoted worldwide by the United Nations. The network invites organizations to align their strategies and activities with the universal principles of human rights, labour, the environment and principles of anti-corruption, through actions that aim at clear social achievements.

From 2011 CIMA Research Foundation has focused on building a network of local, national and international partners that synergistically take part in initiatives aimed at promoting the principles of the Network and to achieve the Sustaibable Development Goals; within these efforts many have been the moments of exchange and sharing of common values. In recent years, our actions have also focused on the local territory, within which we have developed specific environmental awareness programs, in line with our DNA: in fact, our researchers are actively involved in environmental and civil protection educational programs, designed for children ranging from kindergarten to secondary high school, with a dedicated area to high school students engaged in a formative national level work-school program.

Internally, we promote a conscious and sustainable consumption of raw materials (such as fair-trade coffee, filtered water and FSC certified paper); 80% of the energy we consume comes from renewable sources. The University of Genova – Savona Campus, where our headquarters are based is one of our main partners, being a member of the Sustainable Campus Network; thanks also to our support, the Campus is develping the Smart Power Grid project, one of the first european pilot prototype which reduces both CO2 emissions and energy consumption by adopting a smart network of diverse energy suppliers. The system has been designed by the University of Genova and is operated by Siemens.

In 2016 we have written our first Communication on Engagement Report for the UN Global Compact, an exercise that we have experienced as the first Social Report. Our next step will be the creation of reliable indicators to measure the social, human and environmental impacts of its own projects and those in which is involved.

With an average of 40 projects/year in various countries it has become fundamental to understand which is the real value created by our actions, analysing in real time strength and weakness points. Since 2017, CIMA Research Foundation also controls the supply chains of its suppliers, both through a special Transparent Administration and Anti-Corruption program, and through the selection of suppliers with certified and local produced consumables. At the end of 2017 we have joined the Italian Global Compact network where we aim to make a greater contribution towards the Italian national strategy on social responsibility, for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) promoted by the 2030 Agenda. The goal for the two-year period 2018-2020 will be the reporting of our impacts, following the Global Reporting Initiate guidelines, hoping to integrate our mission and our impacts with our contribution to the creation of Value and Sustainability.
