CIMA Research Foundation participates in a consortium led by the Department of Civil Protection for a mapping study across 22 countries in 3 regions to support the definition of cooperation strategies of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) towards IPA beneficiary countries and neighboring countries. The study provides information on the main risks at national, transboundary, and regional scales, as well as gaps in the entire management cycle to address such risks. It also indicates priorities for future programs and actions in IPA beneficiary countries and neighboring countries to the South and East.
In this way, the Multi-Country Study provides support for coherent programming, based on concrete data and the risks of each country, for the development of risk management strategies in the EU neighborhood and IPA beneficiary countries. Furthermore, it enables a sustainable transfer to beneficiary countries to support the development of civil protection and disaster management capacities and regional cooperation structures in civil protection complementary or similar to the UCPM and the development of the UCPM knowledge network.
CIMA Research Foundation’s contribution
CIMA Research Foundation is involved in the inception phase of the project and leads the activity aimed at identifying the main hazards and risks in beneficiary countries and regions, including transboundary and climate change-related risks. Existing risk data and maps are collected and systematized. The data is then analyzed at national and regional levels to identify gaps and provide recommendations based on existing guidelines and previous projects, ensuring a common regional approach compatible with EU standards and best practices, considering the effects of climate change.
Additionally, CIMA Research Foundation is involved in training courses and workshops organized at the national level for personnel from competent national authorities, based on identified gaps and the specific needs of each country.
