End-To-End Performance Simulator (EEPS) for Hydroterra+

The E2E project aims to develop the first version of the performance simulator for the HYDROTERRA+ mission, one of the candidates for the European Earth Explorer 12 programme.

The advanced E2E simulator is designed to reproduce the complete behaviour of the mission, from the observed scene to the generation of the final scientific products. Thanks to its high level of configurability, the system can represent all the factors affecting data acquisition and processing. This allows both for verifying mission performance at different product levels and for supporting the scientific community in the development of analysis algorithm.

GOALS AND EXPECTED RESULTS

The project is structured around two main objectives:

  • development of the simulator;
  • use of the simulator to analyse and assess mission performance.

The activities planned for the development of the simulator include:

  • definition of the technical and functional requirements, with particular attention to design, performance, interfaces, and operational environment;
  • identification of the models to be adopted within the various simulator modules;
  • design of the overall architecture and the interactions between modules;
  • development, integration, and validation of all components.

The following activities are instead envisaged for the assessment of mission performance:

  • definition, in collaboration with European Space Agency (ESA), of a set of scientific reference scenarios;
  • · preparation of the input scenes required for the selected scenarios.

CIMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION’S CONTRIBUTION

CIMA Research Foundation contributes to the project by defining and generating, in collaboration with ESA, a set of reference scientific scenarios to be used as input for the simulator, with the aim of supporting the assessment of its performance.
