DRIHMS

Distribution Research Infrastructure for Hydro-Meteorology Study (DRIHMS) was CIMA Research Foundation’s first European project in meteorology. Started in September 2009 and ended in March 2011, it aimed to create a platform to connect different European entities in the field of meteorology. The network thus created within the European hydrometeorological scientific community has enabled collaboration between different agencies, taking advantage of computer platforms located in different European states.

With the idea of increasing the excellence of European research and its competitiveness in the field of hydrometeorology, DRIHMS laid the foundation for the subsequent DRIHM and DRIHM2US. It has been through these projects that CIMA Research Foundation has been able over the years to gain access to the important computer tools that are essential to achieve the level of computational accuracy needed for the complex forecasting models that CIMA’s researchers must implement. Indeed, the extreme precipitation events that are being studied require the use of a probabilistic multi-model with high spatial and temporal resolution: this is now possible thanks to the platform enabled by the European-wide DRIHMS project.

The project was carried out with the collaboration of the Ludwig Maximilians Universitaet of Munich in Germany and the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Information Technology of the CNR in Genoa.
