The DEWETRA Serbia project was completed in 2014 for the Serbian government through IPA funding. The project consisted in implementing the DEWETRA platform in the country, focusing on monitoring and preventing the risk from extreme weather events and their impacts. CIMA Research Foundation has assured the technology transfer and training to local staff on the use of the platform.
Emphasis has been made on the importance of data exchange between institutions in a standardized manner. DEWETRA is a web tool based on data sharing which allows organizations to communicate and network up-to- date data, models and procedures for disaster risk management and control.
The project has also implemented a modelling chain for hydrological and flood events forecasting by using the FloodPROOFS tool in two Serbian basins: Toplica and Tamis. Some officers by the Civil Protection and the local hydro-meteorological institute had and side-by- side training through thematic workshops and instrumentation.
The head of the Civil Protection Service in Serbia has also made a technical visit at CIMA Research Foundation headquarters in Savona to observe the operational mechanism in our Operational Centre. The situation room is a key element for CIMA Research Foundation activities: it assures software control and assistance to operators, even remotely.
