It is within this context that CIMA Research Foundation publishes its 2024 Annual Report—not only a transparent accountability tool but also a snapshot of the daily work carried out alongside institutional, scientific, and operational partners in Italy and around the world.
The report outlines a year of applied research, international cooperation, support for early warning systems, technical training, and the dissemination of data and good practices. From projects in crisis contexts such as Sudan, to new challenges related to drought, and the development of technological infrastructures for risk monitoring—each activity demonstrates an ongoing commitment that goes beyond scientific production, turning knowledge into practical tools for those working on the ground.

With over 100 active projects in 88 countries, an expanding international network, and new strategic programmes focused on innovation, 2024 was a year of consolidation and momentum. Yet the message that runs through every section of the report is clear: addressing global challenges requires cooperation, access to knowledge, and shared responsibility.
Inclusion and sustainability—beyond research
When telling the story of a year of scientific work and cooperation, every detail matters. The production of the Annual Report reflects this vision as well. Part of the printing process involved a social enterprise operating within the Genova-Pontedecimo Correctional Facility, highlighting CIMA Research Foundation’s commitment to supporting social reintegration initiatives through work and training opportunities for incarcerated individuals.
The printing was carried out in collaboration with a local press specialized in socio-employment inclusion and environmental sustainability projects. The report was printed using eco-friendly inks and an innovative biodegradable paper made from corn processing waste. This choice of low-impact materials aligns with the Foundation’s overall responsible approach to content and form—combining quality, ethics, and environmental awareness.
