Bolzano adopts the new early warning system as excellent result of a fruitful collaboration with CIMA

The long cooperation process between the Bolzano’s autonomous province and CIMA, started in 2017, brought to the official decision of a full renewal of the early warning system, that will be presented during Civil Protect 2021

Last September 14th the Bolzano Autonomous Province unanimously decided for the Altoatesino early warning system approval. This step has officially set off the finalization of a long cooperation process. The Bolzano province functional center and CIMA Foundation started to work in 2017 a path to the early warning system full renewal, in order of uniformizing it to the rest of Italy.

Because of the complexity of the system, during the time the activities have been carried on in two different projects, that involved many stakeholders who contribute to the early warning process in the area.

In the first phase, CIMA carried out assessment tasks, such as the internal procedures analysis adopted by the institutions involved. The collected outcomes allowed to an innovative concept procedure result, through analysis and participative workshops. Eventually, a practical proposal on how to reorganize and act has been reached out.

The second phase focused on the document writing, after translated into the formal decision and official document. The operational concept indeed found a formalization that defines competences, functions and responsibilities for all the institutions involved in the early warning system.

Among the achieved results, the agreement between the offices and services for the daily publication of a warning bulletin. It includes all critical evaluations made by the authorities in charge, and at the same time it constitutes a main element for the operational civil protection steps against emergency events.

The bulletin will be presented officially during Civil Protect (Bolzano, September 17-19) together with the new early warning system website, on line from September 18th.
