Communication

Communication plays a fundamental role in bridging scientific research and social development. For example, the study of natural phenomena allows for the creation of risk assessments, which are used to implement the political measures and behavioural changes necessary for risk prevention. On the one hand, this involves working with stakeholders responsible for introducing and applying risk prevention and mitigation procedures. On the other hand, it also involves working with communities, which for their own safeguard must adopt responsible behaviours.

The Communication Department translates the results obtained by researchers into practical information to be used by decision makers, giving them the tools necessary for risk mitigation and prevention. The department therefore follows projects carried on by CIMA Research Foundation from the beginning, by helping draft project proposals and goals, to the end, working on the effective dissemination of scientific results. As it does so, the department also keeps the aims of the Sendai Framework and Sustainable Developmental Goals of the Agenda 2030 in mind, making sure that the organization stays on track to abide by them in its work.

The Communication Department’s work addresses communities directly, preparing them to cope with emergencies and increasing awareness on the best behaviours to adopt. One such example is CIMA Research Foundation’s participation in the “Io non rischio” (I do not risk) campaign of the Italian Civil Protection Department, working at the national level on the communication of good practices for preventing natural hazard-induced disasters
