The PROTERINA-C project was developed under the framework of Interreg funds for European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) between Italy and France between 2007-2013.
PROTERINA-C has created a replicable model of good practices on territorial and emergency planning and prevention against the risk of forest fires. Final beneficiaries of the project were local administrations and some activities had a direct impact local organizations, such as volunteer groups.
The aim of the project was to create tools and activities for awareness raising in land management and its benefits to the prevention of forest fires. The affected areas had strong morphological and territorial use similarities and included the territories of Corsica, Liguria and Sardinia.
An integrated platform for forecasting hydrogeological and fire risks was developed, as well as the identification of pilot actions in the most vulnerable territories, inspired by sustainable land use practices. Key elements were training programs for local authorities and information campaigns targeted the population at risk.
