PON METRO

Technical and methodological support for the implementation of a platform for the management of hydro-meteorological risks for the City of Genoa

The Italian National Operational Program “Metropolitan Cities 2014 – 2020” (PON METRO) is dedicated to sustainable urban development and aims to improve the quality of services and promote social inclusion. The program involves 14 Italian cities, including Genoa, and provides that the municipality is equipped with an information platform on the presence of meteo-hydrogeological phenomena and the temporal evolution of their effects on the ground for use by the Civil Protection Sector of the Municipality. The purpose of this platform, which is intended to have a greater spatial and temporal resolution than that currently available, is to allow the local authorities concerned and the population itself to implement the most appropriate protective measures, especially in the event of adverse weather events. The final purpose is to use its functionalities to support the actions and procedures of the Civil Protection Plan of the Municipality of Genoa.

Within this activity, CIMA Research Foundation will provide technical and methodological support for the development of the platform. In particular, we will be in charge of the preparatory and functional analysis for the realization and implementation of the platform (indicating, for example, the numerical models that can and should be used); when this first phase will be completed, we will start a process aimed at ensuring an optimal use of the platform and the scientific and methodological validation of the implemented functionalities. In addition, we will be responsible for training the staff of the Civil Protection sector of the City of Genoa on the use of the platform.
