The project involves eleven partners from five countries in the European Alpine Area, working together to develop drought risk management solutions, improving monitoring and forecasting tools tailored for the Alps. These innovations will support local authorities and contribute to a drought prediction system for the entire Alpine area. Specifically, A-DROP is generating high-resolution climatic and hydrological data, accessible and integrable with local systems. Additionally, the project employs climate models to estimate the effects of climate change in the Alps, supporting decision-making and adaptations in five pilot areas. A-DROP also offers training and awareness-raising to facilitate the adoption of successful practices and the transition to new sustainable water governance strategies.
CIMA Research Foundation’s contribution
CIMA Foundation is one of the main partners in the project and is collaborating in developing a pan-Alpine Nival Water Equivalent (S3M Alps) assessment tool, validating combined drought indices over the Alpine space, conducting educational events aimed at young students (Alpine Space Youth COP), and evaluating the capabilities of seasonal forecasts in detecting droughts in the Aosta Valley several months in advance.
