On January, 25th, in Varese, a commemorative day was held in honor of Giuseppe Zamberletti, the founding father of the Italian civil protection, whose death occurred a year ago. As expressed by the National Department of Civil Protection, Zamberletti made the organization of the National Service, established in 1992, possible and introduced the concepts of forecasting and prevention as distinct from rescue activities.
On the occasion of the commemorative day, Franco Siccardi, President Emeritus of the CIMA Research Foundation, recalled his years of work alongside the man to whom the Foundation owes its existence. The man who, as we wrote when he died:
understood, fifty years ago, that social and political action cannot do without science and applied knowledge…
