In the last two months of 2020, the five workshops concluded. They made it possible to analyse the current state of loss data collection systems in the countries involved and to work on the national implementation of the DesInventar-Sendai and Sendai Framework Monitor tools
The national workshops planned for the project “National Disaster Loss Databases Implementation in Central Asia“, dedicated to the strengthening of damage data collection in five Central Asian countries, were held during November and December 2020.
The workshops were organized with the support of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Brussels and UNDRR national officials based in the five countries involved in the project (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). The purpose of the two-day workshops was to present the assessment of the current status of disaster loss data accounting systems from the information collected and discussed earlier during the interim national online meetings, held in September 2020 in each country. Also, during the workshops were discussed the DesInvnetar-Sendai Data card parameters and setup requirements for the system.
“In addition, the project aims to support national offices involved in risk management in the use of DesInvetar-Sendai, a software for collecting, documenting and systematically analyzing from damage data, and in the introduction of Sendai Framework Monitor, a platform to collect advancements towards the Sendai Framework goals,” explains Tatiana Bedrina, project manager for CIMA Research Foundation. “Therefore, part of the workshops was also dedicated to the implementation of these two tools”. This was done both through e-learning trainings organized and developed by CIMA Research Foundation, and through moments of discussion with the participants, who reflected on the challenges, opportunities and obstacles for the implementation, at the national level, of DesInventar-Sendai and the systematic use of the Sendai Framework Monitor.
“These workshops, attended by representatives from several ministries, were an important moment in the project, which began in June 2020 and is scheduled to end in May 2022. In addition to allowing us to take stock of the current state of disaster loss data accounting systems and, more generally, of disaster information management, they also allowed us to gather proposals on the activities needed for the national implementation of the DesInventar-Sendai and the Sendai Framework Monitor,” concludes Bedrina. “Now begins a new year of work, for which activities, including training, have already been planned in agreement with UNDRR and the technical working groups of the countries”.
