ICT

Science and technology often go hand in hand. Through scientific research, we gain a better understanding of natural and physical phenomena. Science allows us to acquire and organise knowledge about it, and at the same time technology takes advantage of this knowledge to develop tools that are commons, for the whole society. And it actively contributes to scientific research progress.

Our ICT Department is the meeting point of scientific research and technology thanks to the close collaboration of developers and computer systems engineers. The ICT Department activities include the development of software platforms, including the formalization of use cases and customization (in collaboration with the users). The same platforms are used for the modeling and monitoring application programs for the prediction of forecasting and propagation of fires and river floods, for risk assessment and for the monitoring and safeguard of cetaceans. Our researchers develop algorithms that allow both the data collection from the network and the development of hardware systems that will be combined with software. Moreover, the department studies the strategies for the optimal visualization of data sets and the control of the different infrastructures of the collection network.

It is in the ICT Department that the information coming from the different research departments and tools (such as software platforms, ground sensors or satellites) are collected and normalized to be available to researchers and public administrations, who can use them for the prediction of natural phenomena.
