MED-Star: in April the international meeting and the exercise

Two days of international meetings and an international exercise: these are the events organized for this week within the Interreg Italy-France MED-Star project

Dedicated to improving the capacity of public institutions to manage and prevent the growing risk of fires, due to climate change, the MED-Star project began in May 2019 and involves the territory of the Liguria, Sardinia and Tuscany Regions for Italy, Corsica and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region for France. The project, which also represents the coordination project of four simple projects (INTERMED, MED COOPFIRE, MED FORESTE and MED PSS), has worked on the development of developing innovative models of governance, with the implementation of joint action plans for the prediction, prevention monitoring and management of fires, as well as the transfer to public institutions the methodologies for monitoring and forecasting from the scientific world.

It is in this context that, on April 5th and 6th, an international meeting is held, organized by Liguria Region, ANCI Liguria and CIMA Research Foundation, which brings together the project partners in two days of exchange of experiences.

The first day will be dedicated to the synthesis of the main Ligurian activities of MED-Star and the related simple projects; moreover, the cross-border data sharing platform myDewetra.world-MED-Star and its application in case studies in the project area will be presented. The second day will be dedicated to the discussion on the joint action plan on monitoring and to the survey on the area of the fire that affected Cisano sul Neva (Savona) from 6 to 9 September 2021.

In addition to these two days of meeting, there will be a cross-border exercise in Olivetta San Michele (Imperia), organized by the Liguria Region, ANCI Liguria and CIMA research Foundation, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Fire Brigades of Liguria, as part of the simple MED COOPFIRE project. During the exercise will be used the prototype vehicles purchased by the partners to be used for the extinction of forest fires and the new technologies to support the active fight against forest fires. In particular, CIMA Research Foundation will illustrate and apply the model of simulation of forest fire behavior Propagator, while the SAPR nucleus will use the drones in support of the activities of fighting and clearing a forest fire. On this occasion will be tested the operational procedures of activation and intervention defined within the agreement that CIMA Research Foundation has with the Liguria Regional Directorate of Fire Brigades.
