The initiative aims to strengthen the capacities of beneficiary countries in the design, implementation, maintenance, and management of resilient infrastructure, capable of reducing the impact of disasters and improving operational recovery, thus ensuring greater safety and socioeconomic stability. The project, part of Italy’s support to the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), is structured in three phases:
- Conducting exploratory missions in the beneficiary countries to assess their interests and needs regarding disaster resilience
- Design and implementation of training activities in various locations across Italy, including institutional visits, meetings with critical infrastructure operators, and analysis of relevant case studies
- Drafting a final report that outlines lessons learned and provides recommendations for future initiatives
Goals and expected results
Each phase of the project has specific objectives and expected results. The initial phase aims to identify:
- the state of the art in infrastructure risk assessment in each country
- the potential vulnerabilities of existing infrastructure
- existing mechanisms to achieve resilient infrastructure
- the most relevant phase of the risk management cycle for each country
The second phase focuses on organizing the training course, including identifying the institutions, agencies, and operators to be involved. The third phase results in defining lessons learned, which can be developed into future projects.
