The BE DRIN (Balkans and Europe for Development of Resilience Initiatives) project, carried out between 2015 and 2017 under the coordination of the Italian Civil Protection Department, benefited civil protection organisations and institutions in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia and specifically in the Drin river basin area in the Western Balkans.
Through BE DRIN, CIMA Research Foundation aimed at giving sustainability and continuity to the previous IPA FLOODS project by working on the strengthening of voluntary organizations and Civil Protection Departments of the countries involved, mainly on management and hospitality procedures of the EU Aid Volunteers.
Another objective was to strengthen the Hosting Organizations (HO) capabilities for a effective contribute to the national civil protection systems by preparing them to respond to humanitarian and emergency crises through effective management, preparation and response to disasters. The project has included support to HOs towards meeting the qualitative standards required to accommodate EU volunteers.
In order to further strengthen the regional and community resilience capabilities to natural hazards, BE DRIN has seen various capacity building activities through workshops and seminars; the project was concluded through the implementation of two complex final training exercises/drills, one in Albania and one in Kosovo which have allowed to apply the new skills acquired by the organizations involved.
