With deep sorrow, CIMA Research Foundation has learned of the passing of Prof. Lucio Ubertini, a key figure in the international scientific community in the fields of hydrology and risk management.
An academic, researcher, communicator, and institutional leader, Lucio Ubertini devoted his life to the study of extreme hydrological phenomena, promoting an integrated approach that combined science, technological innovation, and land management. His contributions were fundamental to the development of a culture of risk awareness in Italy and beyond.
Alongside his scientific authority, he always nurtured a strong ethical and social vision, which he generously shared with younger generations.
Prof. Ubertini maintained a long-standing relationship of esteem and friendship with CIMA Research Foundation, particularly with Franco Siccardi, the Foundation’s emeritus president, who passed away last year. They shared scientific visions and institutional commitment, and their friendship—fueled by a common passion for research and innovation—served as a point of reference for those working in the field of natural risk forecasting and prevention.
His passing leaves a profound void in the scientific community and among all those who had the privilege of working with him.
The entire Foundation extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
