La sua posizione strategica diede una grande rilevanza al paese durante la sua storia, che fu infatti per molti anni scenario di battaglie e dispute per ottenerne il controllo. Per questo motivo fu costruito un castello normanno fortificato, che con il passare dei secoli sub\u00ec delle modificazioni strutturali. Queste sono ancora ben visibili, tra i ruderi rimasti infatti si pu\u00f2 distinguere quali edifici sono i pi\u00f9 antichi e quali invece sono stati aggiunti in seguito.
