This tool is a support for national environmental management.

The project

Concluded in October 2023, the project made it possible to develop an online system (EIS) that allows, through the analysis of 26 indicators, to provide information on the environment by monitoring certain parameters. The data collected by the system come from different sources, including the in-situ monitoring stations of Haitian institutions and satellites.

EIS is managed by the National Observatory for Environment and Vulnerability (ONEV, part of the Haitian Ministry of Environment) and is designed for three different types of users: public users who have open access to the platform, local authorities (thus also helping coordination between different sectors), and those who are responsible for preparing reports for the United Nations Conventions (Climate Change, Biodiversity and Desertification) who have private access.

Results

Interoperability with other national environmental platforms

Automatization process for the updates of indicators using satellite images (through the WASDI platform)

Training in Italy of two Haitian technicians on the future management and administration of the SIE

CIMA Research Foundation’s contribution

CIMA Research Foundation contributed to the development of the EIS and its validation in the field. In addition, through the development of an e-learning course, it helped strengthen local capacity to operate, use and feed the EIS. Through several phases of activities, it also developed additional indicators than those used in the first version of the platform and enabled the system to be automatically fed with satellite data on a regular basis through the use of the Web platform Advanced Space Developer Interface (WASDI), developed by CIMA Research Foundation and the company FadeOut Software.

CIMA Research Foundation has implemented a monitoring system called the Environmental Information System (EIS) for the Republic of Haiti.

[147,147
143
post-6748","progetto","type-progetto","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-early-warning","stato-progetto-concluso
["GET
