The project focuses on key sectors such as disaster risk reduction, water resources, agriculture, and health, and is fully aligned with African and AU–EU strategic frameworks.

GOALS AND EXPECTED RESULTS

CAPA’s methodology is based on defragmenting climate initiatives, integrating scientific and traditional knowledge, strengthening human and institutional capacities, and using advanced technologies such as AI. Seven Work Packages cover governance, roadmap development, funding, knowledge aggregation, operational integration, capacity building, and participatory communication. CAPA applies Open Science, ensuring free access to data, protocols, and publications, fostering African ownership and sustainability of results. Expected impacts include stronger recognition of African climate science, better climate services, education of new generations, and coordinated funding. In the long term, CAPA aims to establish a sustainable AU-EU partnership for climate risk reduction and resilient African communities.

CIMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION’S CONTRIBUTION

In the CAPA project, CIMA plays a central role in transforming climate data into operational resilience across Africa. Their work spans three key areas:

Mapping (T5.1): As a regional climate expert, CIMA helps map the entire value chain of climate services, from NMHSs to the private sector, identifying key stakeholders and existing resilience solutions across the continent

Integration (T5.3): CIMA leads the integration of climate products. They analyze how to combine short-term emergency tools with long-term planning. This includes a critical gap analysis to identify underserved regions and technical needs, directly shaping the project’s strategic roadmap

Capacity Building (T6.1): As WP co-lead, CIMA evaluates technological literacy and Early Warning System (EWS) usage. They translate project findings into innovative training guidelines and will develop an e-learning platform designed for decision-makers, media, and the public.

CAPA is a large Euro–African consortium aiming to strengthen climate research and climate services in Africa, focusing on key sectors such as disaster risk reduction, water resources, agriculture, and health.

[168
144
post-17364","progetto","type-progetto","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-africa","stato-progetto-ongoing
["GET
