Today,\nscience can provide fundamental support\nfor managing these risks, offering tools for forecasting and planning\nthat can help civil protection activities. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natrisk.unige.it\/course\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Engineering for Natural Risk\nManagement<\/a> program combines\ntechnical knowledge, addressed with a multi-risk and multi-disciplinary\napproach, with management and coordination issues. The program\ntherefore covers all the aspects of the risk management cycle,\nfrom the scientific knowledge of the natural processes from which risk is\nderived, to assessment methodologies, operations\nmanagement and risk communication methods and technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The courses are taught in English, in order to promote\nan international exchange with students and experts from abroad.\nThe program also includes an internship\nand practical activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimafoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Schermata-2019-10-29-alle-15.48.53.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-939\" title=\"\"><figcaption>The president of CIMA Research Foundation, Luca Ferraris, with the engineer Lucia Mortara<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>CIMA Research Foundation\u2019s goal is to promote the study, scientific research,technological development and higher education in engineering and environmental sciences for civil protection and the conservation of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. It therefore supports the program\u2019s objectives and provides laboratories, researchers and administrative staff. Within this context, Luca Ferraris, president of CIMA Research Foundation, and Marina Morando, head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimafoundation.org\/foundations\/research-development\/territorial-planning.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Planning and Procedures Department (opens in a new tab)\">Planning and Procedures Department<\/a>, were respectively supervisor and co-supervisor of one of the theses defended today. The research, entitled &#8220;A methodology for flood risk mapping at the local scale for civil protection purposes&#8221;, was dedicated to flood risk reduction planning.
