Disaster Loss Databases in Albania and Serbia
CIMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION will be responsible for the historical disaster data collection in Albania within the Disaster-Risk Poverty Analysis project developed by UNISDR. According to UNISDR "accurate, comparable and appropriately scaled information on disaster losses, hazards, vulnerabilities and risks is fundamental for designing and implementing effective policies and programmes that reduce disaster risk".
The specific objective of CIMA Research Foundation within the project is to develop a historical disaster loss database for Albania, using data provided by the Government of Albania and other sources. Data from the disaster loss database will be then overlaid with poverty datasets/devolpment indices to reach conclusions on risk-poverty trends in the region and enhance national capacities to adress risk reduction challenges in the context of poverty reduction strategies. The first step of this assignment will be a 4 days national workshop in Albania to be held on February 2013, to engage all the relevant stakeholders and to support the UNISDR in providing technical training.
Furthermore, CIMA Research Foundation shall also provide technical support to UNDP Serbia in the development of a disaster loss database in Serbia.
