Delegation of CIMA Research Foundation and Italian Civil Protection visits Guatemala and El Salvador

Prof. Luca Ferraris, vice president of CIMA RF, Giovanni Franchini International Projects Coordinator of the Italian Civil Protection, and Francesco Gaetani project leader at CIMA RF, visited Guatemala and El Salvador on behalf of the IILA (Istituto Italo Latino Americano) from Sept. 21 to Sept. 30.

During the visit the delegation met with the directors and the representatives of CONRED (Coord Nacional para la Reducción de Desastres) of Guatemala and the Proteccion Civil of El Salvador. Specific field visits and discussion groups have been organized with a number of officials and researchers belonging to central and local Institutions involved in the Civil Protection mechanism with the aim of highlighting their actual priorities and figure out common activities or projects in the field of Disaster Risk Assessment and Mitigation.

Furthermore, delegation was met by the Regional Director of the Italian Development Cooperation, Ms. Paola Viero, and by Her Excellency the Italian Ambassador in El Salvador, Ms. Caterina Bertolini. The meetings gave the opportunity to exchange views on the regional and local situation of CP structures and to define the potential role of CIMA RF and Italian Civil Protection in the strategic task of enhancing the capacity building of local CP Structures and adapting the Italian CP paradigm to Central America scenario.
